March 9, 2005 — University of the Virgin Islands sophomore Weena McFarlane was named to the National Dean's List. She has been invited as an honoree to the 2005 International Mission on Anthropology and Archeology, an honor bestowed on high achieving college students. Select students with exemplary leadership and outstanding academic performances receive the honor.
McFarlane, who has a 3.71 grade point average, plans to pursue graduate studies in psychology and sociology after graduating from UVI.
"I'm flattered. I'm very flattered. I wasn't expecting this at all," she said of the award. "I really aim to do my best. My goal is to continue doing my best in my classes."
McFarlane is a peer counselor, a math booster and a member of the psychology club. She was the 2004 Student Employee of the Year on the St. Croix campus. Additionally, McFarlane is a certified Americans with Disability Act Reader. In that capacity she can assist visually impaired people with reading, and currently assists a UVI student who has a visual impairment.
