Senate President Lorraine L. Berry Meets with American Legion Auxiliary National President

March 10, 2005 – Senator Lorraine L. Berry, President of the 26th Legislature, today met with Sandi Dutton, 2004-2005 National President of the American Legion Auxiliary.
Dutton, represents an organization that boasts a million members from all walks of life, the Auxiliary administers hundreds of volunteer programs, gives tens of thousands of hours to its communities and to veterans, and raises millions of dollars to support its own programs as well as other worthwhile charities familiar to most Americans. It is all accomplished with volunteers.
Local and regional officers of the American Legion Auxiliary accompanied Dutton to the Legislature where Senate President Berry hosted a meeting with the leaders as part of Berry’s continuing recognition of March being International Women’’s Month.
"It was a great pleasure for me to meet with these outstanding leaders," Senate President Berry said. "Each of these women, in their own way, represents the values of why we recognize International Women's Month."
Other American Legion Auxiliary officers present included: Mary Alexis Rhymer, President of the Patrick U. George Unit 90 Auxiliary in St. Thomas; Noemi Burgos de Paneto, Departmental President of Puerto Rico Auxiliary; Maria M. Vazquez Bonilla, Departmental Vice President of the of Puerto Rico Auxiliary; Daril Evans, Chaplain for the Patrick U. George Unit 90 Auxiliary and Rita A. Brady, Public Relations Officer for the Patrick U. George Unit 90 Auxiliary.
Senate President Berry spoke with the American Legion Auxiliary leaders about local, regional and national issues including Berry's status as a leader in the Legislature and the community in general. They also covered issues like veterans care and facilities, local politics and Virgin Islands history.
American Legion National President Dutton was in St. Thomas after recent visits to Korea, Taiwan and the Philippines.
