News Brief: Sewage Flows Into Street in Kirwan Terrace

0

March 14, 2005 –– A blocked sewer line sent sewage flowing into the street late Sunday night near the police department's station in Kirwan Terrace, St. Thomas. The problem continued until mid-morning Monday. One caller to the Source described the stench as awful on Monday.
Police Capt. Adelbert Molyneaux said Monday the sewage was flowing up through a manhole cover. He added,"Public Works flushed out the area.
Planning and Natural Resources Department spokesman Jamal Nielsen said Monday that grease in the sewer line caused the blockage.
"Everything is fine now," he said.
Molyneaux said the same problem happened about a month ago.
Stella Saunders, who handles media inquiries at the Public Works Department, did not call back with the requested information.
