Mar 16, 2005 – About 50 people attended the Grand Opening of TRAXCO's Turf Club, located at Divi Carina Bay Casino. The Turf Club is a simulcast, wagering area featuring large flat screen televisions in an enclosed area. Players can watch and bet on races from tracks around the nation in an environment complete will all the amenities of the casino. They may choose to mix in a group in the main area watching large screens on the wall or enjoy the privacy of their own kiosk and a small screen.
Dennis Brow, General Manager of TRAXCO, Inc., said the Turf Club has actually been in operation for two weeks, but the glass walls closing it off from the main casino area were just completed before the grand opening.
In a press release he stated, "TRAXCO's been working diligently to improve the quantity and quality of live horse racing and horse racing venues on the island of St. Croix. We're pleased to continually bring island residents and guests increased variety in quality facilities. This is just the first of many entertainment improvements we'll bring to St. Croix."
At the casino after the ceremonies, he said TRAXCO plans to open two more simulcast sites in early May. He said, "We want to be ready for the Kentucky Derby. We wouldn't be able to hold all the people in here."
One site will be at Randall "Doc" James Racetrack. The other site will be in Frederiksted. Brow said this would making betting more convenient for people on the west side of the island.
Besides the simulcast area, TRAXCO, Inc. is responsible for the management of live horse racing on St. Croix at the Randall Racetrack which has 13 more live races on their 2005 schedule. Brow commented, "The other 352 days can be enjoyed in our new simulcast area."
The parent company of Divi Casino, Treasure Bay V.I. Corp., also owns TRAXCO.
