April 4, 2005 – Keesje Fischer will exhibit her recent works at Danica Art Gallery, 54 King Street, Christiansted, directly across the street from Government House. The opening reception will be Thursday, April 7, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. April 7 is also the day Christiansted's monthly Gallery Walk. Nine galleries stay open for evening hours.
Fischer's work will be on display through May 3.
Educated at the School of Fine Arts in Utrecht, Holland, Fischer now lives in New York City. She has exhibited internationally including the Minna Street Gallery in San Francisco, Hotel Arena in Amsterdam, and Danica Art Gallery in St. Croix.
She is a member of the Brooklyn Waterfront Artists Coalition and her work has hung in the Office of the Manhattan Borough President.
In addition to presenting her work in traditional spaces, according to a press release, Fischer enjoys working on public and community projects such as a public performance in San Francisco and a school mural.
Currently, she serves as artist-in-residence at NY Presbyterian Hospital in the long-term care ward, leads storytelling at Amsterdam Nursing Home, and teaches at Council Senior Center in Manhattan. Interested in narrative, Fischer invites a connection between viewer and subject by telling her human story through line, color, and movement.
"I'm curious about the stories behind people's faces, under their coats, in their bags."
For more information about the exhibition call the gallery at 719-6000.
