Busy Weekend for Little-Leaguers

April 11, 2005 – In the weekend wrap-up of Elmo Plaskett Little League East, there were seven games played. Last Friday in the 9 to 10 year-old division, Jordan Scott struck out nine as the Yankees pushed their record to 5-0 with the 12-6 win over the Suns. Etheldred Christopher was the losing picture. The Yankees got homeruns from Lakeish Plante (1-1, HR, RBI) and Juan Moreau (2-4, HR, 2 RBIs). The Suns' two hits came from Christopher Joseph (1-3) and Elijah Felix (1-2).
In the 11 and 12 year-old division, Joshua Torres blasted a three-run homerun as the Yankees scored seven runs in the first inning and went on to win their second straight with the 9-6 win over the Suns. Micky Garcia was the winning pitcher. Jeron Rose took the loss. Leading the Yankees were Torres (1-2, HR, 3 RBIs) and Micky Garcia (2-3, RBI). Two of the three hits from the suns came from Kaleem Fleming (1-1, RBI) and Angel Carrion (1-2, RBI).
In Saturday's first game the Indians scored five runs in the first inning as Shaquille Joseph pitched them to the 7-1 win over the Suns. William Tutein (2-2, RBI) and Malik Rodriguez (1-2, HR, RBI) paced the Indians as they remained unbeaten at 5-0 in the 11 and 12 year-old division. Nagee Williams (2-3, RBI) and Carlos Perez (2-3) had most of the Suns' hits.
In the 7 and 8 year-old division, the Lil Yankees got homeruns from Kareem Parilla (2-3, HR, 4 RBIs), Sergio Santiago (3-3, HR, RBI) and Kelvin Felix (2-2, HR, 2 RBIs) as Lil Yankees topped the Suns 14-5. The Suns were led by D’John Hardy (2-3, HR, 3 RBIs), Shaquan Joseph (1-2, HR, RBI) and Dante Bailey (1-2, RBI).
In Saturday’s nightcap, a 5 and 6 year-old division contest, the Suns downed Toon Squad II 17-5. Akido Lindquist (3-3, HR, 3 RBIs), Devante Williams (2-3, HR, 4 RBIs) and Kiron Peters (3-3, 3 RBIs) combined for 8 hits and drove in 10 runs for the Suns. Pacing Toon Squad were Shanice Roebuck (3-3, 2 RBIs), Giovanni Ford (3-3, 3 RBIs) and Eaunis Stenstadvolder (2-2).
In Sunday’s first game, the Yankees kept their record a perfect 6-0 for the 9 and 10 year-old division as they were 14-9 winners over the improving Reds. Leroy Simmonds III (1-2, RBI) was the winning pitcher. Joel Belboder (1-2, RBI) was the losing pitcher. The Yankees also got help from Edwin Calderon (2-3, RBI) and Jordan Scott (2-4, rbi). Daniel Cruz (1-3, RBI) also got a hit for the Reds.
In the 7 and 9 year-old division, Lil Yankees I easily downed the Mets 16-2. Conroy Samuel (2-3, 2HR, 2 RBIs) and Romani Hansen (3-3, 2HR, 4 RBIs) each had multiple homeruns and De’Andre Simmonds had one for Lil Yankees. Leading the Mets were George Blake Jr (1-2, 2 RBIs) and Julan Walter (1-1).
There is one game scheduled this Wednesday 5:30 p.m. at Canegata Ballpark. The Indians take their 5-0 record against the Yankees, who have won two straight, in an 11 and 12 year-old division game.
