Elmo Plaskett Little League East Action Heats Up

April 10, 2005 – In the Elmo Plaskett Little League East, eight games were played the first weekend of April. On Friday in the 9-10 division, the Yankees continue their domination and remained undefeated on the season with the 17-6 win over the Reds. Kariff Martineau was the winning pitcher. Leonardo Castillo took the loss. The Yankees were led by Leroy Simmonds III (2-3, HR, 4 RBI), Jordan Scott (3-3, RBI) and Denzel Carter (2-2, RBI). Leading the Reds were Joel Belboder (1-2, HR, 3 RBI) and Steven Rodriguez (1-2, 2 RBI).
In the 11-12 division Friday the Indians remained perfect on the season with the 17-6 victory over the Suns behind the pitching of Frank Wilson. Carlos Perez suffered the loss. The Indians were led by Tyler Daley (4-4, HR, 4 RBI), Mark Knight (3-3, 3 RBI) and Williams Tutein (3-4, RBI).
Saturday, in the 9-10 division, the Suns topped the Reds 14-10. The Suns were powered by Daren Stevens (3-4, RBI) and Christopher Joseph (2-4, RBI). Jaheem Joseph, the winning pitcher, helped his cause with 2 hits with an RBI. Daniel Cruz (2-4, 3 RBI) and Steven Rodriguez (1-2, 2 RBI) paced the Reds.
The Indians won their second of the weekend and remained undefeated with the win over the winless Yankees in the 11-12 division. Jahmoy Williams was the winning pitcher. Joshua Torres was the losing picture. Frank Wilson (2-3, 2 RBI) and William Tutein (2-3, RBI) each had two hits for the Indians.
In Saturday’s nightcap, Toon Squad II edged out Toon Squad I by the score 18-17. Shanice Simmolkier (2-3, 2 RBI), Manoken Miller (3-3, RBI) and Auns Skenstadvolker (2-3, RBI) combined for seven of Toon Squad II’s seventeen hits. Timothy Reid (2-2, 4 RBI) and David Armstrong (2-2, 2 RBI) led Toon Squad I.
Sunday was dedicated to the Pee Wee Division. In the first game, a 7-8 division contest,
Patson Saner (3-3, 2 RBI) blasted a two-run double in the second inning to give the Mets a 3-2 lead over the Suns. The Mets went on to win 9-7 with help from the bat of Evanston Matthews Jr. (1-2, HR, 2 RBI). Shaquan Joseph (3-3, HR, 2 RBI) and D’John Hardy (2-3, 2 RBI) led the Suns.
In the 5-6, Devante Williams (3-3, HR) RBI-single in the bottom of the last inning allowed Toon Squad I to tie the game with the Suns 20-20. Malik Williams (3-3, 3 RBI) and Aldemar Santos Jr. (3-3, 2 RBI) were both perfect at the plate for the Suns. Toon Squad also got help from Akido Lindquist (2-3, HR, 4 RBI).
In the one game Wednesday night, Joshua Torres stole home to give the Yankees the 10-9 win over the Suns. Lionel Danielson, pitching in relief of Daniel Franco got the Yankees first win of the season. Najee Williams suffered the loss. Delroy Menzie (2-2) and Charles Sutton (2-2) each had two hits for the Yankees. Carlos Perez (3-4, 2 RBI) and Mario Simmonds (2-2) led the Suns.
There were eight games scheduled for this weekend at Canegata Ballpark. Friday at 5:30 pm the Yankees (4-0) faced the Suns (2-2) in the 9-10 contest. Then 11-12 division Yankees (1-4), coming off their first win of the season go against the Suns (1-1) again at 7:30 pm. Saturday’s action started with an 11-12 division game between the undefeated Indians (4-0) and the Suns at 1 p.m. In the 7-8 contest the Lil Yankees II face the Suns at 3 p.m. followed by the 5-6 division games between Toon Squad II and the Suns at 5 p.m. Sunday at 2 p.m. the Yankees will face the Reds in the 9-10 division. Then at 4:p.m. it was a 7-8 division game between the Mets and Lil Yankees.
