April 11, 2005 – The first annual Plant and Flower Show at St. John's Marketplace Shopping Center will be held Saturday. The show will be spread out over the shopping center's three levels.
"It will have more information than your average garden show," Jennifer Dale, Marketplace manager, said.
In addition to plants for sale, the event features demonstrations on organic pest control, drip irrigation systems for both fresh and gray water, landscape lighting, plant propagation, and other topics.
Orchid Society and Bonsai Society members will be on hand to show people how to work with those types of plants.
Dale said she expects Alfredo's Landscaping, Bryan's Plants and Gardening Supplies, Skyline Nursery and Landscaping, Plant Depot and Garden Center, Coral Bay Garden Center, and Today's Flowers to offer plants for sale.
Additionally, the shopping center's stores will feature related objects for sale. Flowered shirts, vases, and outdoor furniture are among the offerings.
Starfish Market will offer complimentary wine and cheese from noon to 4 p.m. on the first floor.
Dale said those who attend will receive coupon offers and raffle tickets.
It takes about 15 minutes to walk to the Marketplace from the Cruz Bay ferry dock. Taxis are available at the Cruz Bay waterfront. And barges transport vehicles between Red Hook, St. Thomas and Cruz Bay, St. John throughout the day.
The show will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free.
