April 12, 2005 – Delegate to Congress Donna M. Christensen today invited high school students interested in attending a one-week health career seminar this summer in Washington, D.C., to contact her office.
"Students who are in grads 9 through 11, who are interested in health careers are urged to apply for the National African American Youth Initiative which is scheduled for June 18 through 28 in Washington, D.C." Students are encouraged to apply through their high school offices or by calling the Office of the Delegate at 778-5900 on St. Croix, and 774-4408 on St. Thomas.
Sponsored by the Auxiliary to the National Medical Association, a professional organization for African American physicians and other health care professionals, the program's goal is to prepare, motivate and encourage young African Americans to pursue a career in the health professions. Students are exposed to the National Institute of Health, the Department of Health and Human Services, Howard University Hospital, and will have a day on Capitol Hill where they meet Members of Congress.
Deadline for applications and supporting documents and recommendations is April 29.
