April 22, 2005 – In the Elmo Plaskett Little League East Wednesday games at D. C. Canegata Ballpark in Christiansted, there was a meeting between the Suns and the Yankees in the 9 and 10-year-old division.
In the top of the first inning the Suns scored five runs off Denzel Carter in his first start for the Yankees. Jordan Scott came on in relief to end the inning. In the bottom of the first, the Yankees answered with five runs to tie the game at five apiece. In the second, the Suns took a 6-5 lead, but the Yankees answered in the bottom of the second with three runs to lead 8-6. The Yankees scored two in the third and the Suns scored two in the fourth.
After four innings, the Yankees led 10-8.
In the top of the fifth, with the Suns trailing 10-9, a pass-ball issued by Scott allowed Daren Stephens to score the tying run from third base. Ashante Lawrence (4-4, HR, 3 RBIs) blasted a solo homerun to give the Suns an 11-10 lead.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Yankees faced Etheldred Christopher Jr., who releived Ashante Lawrence. The Suns walked four batters allowing the Yankees’ Juan Mareau to score the tying run. Jaheem Joseph took the mound for Christopher with bases loaded and two outs to face Michael Cintron. Cintron hit a single over the head of the first-baseman driving in the winning run and giving the Yankees the 12-11 victory.
Ray Parilla (2-2, HR, 4 RBIs) and Juan Mareau (2-3, RBI) led the Yankees. Dante James was 1-1 for the Suns. The Yankees kept their record a perfect 7-0 on the season.
In the 5 and 6 year-old division, it is Tune Squad #1 (3-1), Tune Squad #2 (2-2) and the Suns (1-3). Lil Yankees I (3-1) lead the 7 and 8 year-olds, followed by the Lil Yankees II (2-1), Mets (2-1) and Suns (0-4). In the 9 and 10 year-old division, it is the undefeated Yankees (7-0), Suns (3-4) and Reds (0-6). The Indians lead the 11 and 12 year-olds with a perfect 7-0, followed by the Suns (2-4) and Yankees (2-7).
There are seven games on tap this coming weekend. Friday at 5:30 p.m., the Yankees will try to make it 8–0 as they face the Reds in the 9 and 10 year-old division. At 7:30 p.m., the Indians will also try to make 8-0 in their game with Suns.
Saturday starts with a 7 and 8 year-old division contest between Lil Yankees I and Lil Yankees II at 1 p.m. At 3 p.m. the Suns face the Reds in the 9 and 10 year-old division. In the nightcap at 5 p.m., the Yankees go against the Sun in the 11 and 12 year-old division.
Sunday starts at 2 p.m. with the 7 and 8 year-old division contest between the Suns and Mets followed by the Suns hosting the Indians at 4 p.m. in the 11 and 12 year-old division.
