April 28, 2005 – Adrienne Brown will be exhibiting her recent paintings entitled, "Revolutions: A retrospective" at Danica Art Gallery, located on 54 King Street, Christiansted directly across the street from Government House. The opening reception is May 5; from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Brown’s work will be on display through June 9.
Brown was born in St. Louis and moved to St. Croix in January 2000. She is the mother of two daughters Jena, 3, and Ashni, 2.
According to a press release, she has been creating art since she was four, and has always been attracted to the creative process. She is self-taught, with some training at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She works in a variety of medium but acrylic is her current medium of choice.
She first exhibited her work at the age of 14. She received the "Lois Mailou Jones – Artistic Hope for the Future" award at the age of 18, from the Portfolio Gallery and Educational Center in St. Louis. She has been commissioned to create portraits, CD covers and a mural. She has written and illustrated one children’s book and designed covers for three books of poetry written by her brother, Derek A. Brown. She has exhibited her works for the past three years at the Good Hope Fine Arts Exhibition; Walsh Metal Works "Mocko Jumbie" exhibit; and the Arts and Entertainment Exhibit at the Caribbean Community Theater. She has taught several art classes to students ranging in age from kindergarten through adult.
Her plans for the future, according to the release, include developing a variety of art related projects (i.e., gallery, children’s community center, etc.).
