College Business Residency Program Offered to High School Juniors, Seniors
The University of the Virgin Islands Business Division, in partnership with International Capital Management Company, invites all interested Virgin Islands high school juniors and seniors to become part of its College Business Residency Program. The program will be held from June 19 to July 1 on the St. Thomas campus. It is offered at no cost to the participants. The deadline date to apply to the program has been extended to May 30. Applications can be picked up from the Principal's Office at schools in the territory or at the UVI Business Division Office on the St. Thomas campus. UVI Offers Medical College Admissions Test Workshop to Virgin Islanders
An MCAT (Medical College Admissions Test) Preparation Workshop through the Princeton Review will be offered at the University of the Virgin Islands, St. Thomas campus, in half-day sessions from August 7 – 17, 2005. This workshop is open to Virgin Islanders preparing for the Medical College Admissions Test. Sessions will concentrate on the language sections of the test. It is appropriate for college sophomores and juniors. There is a fee of $50 for the course. The course normally costs over $600. If interested, please call Judy Roland-Fahie at 340-693-1232 by June 1, 2005. Space is limited. The course will not run unless there are enough registered participants.
UVI Employees of the Year Featured in Current dateline:UVI
UVI's 2005 Employees of the Year – Judy Roland-Fahie on the St. Thomas campus and Joyce Hobson on the St. Croix campus – are featured in the current issue of dateline:UVI, which is now available on the UVI web site. The newsletter also outlines plans for the upcoming "Shop be-Cause" promotion in conjunction with the Tom Joyner Fantastic Voyage visit to St. Thomas on May 30, and recounts UVI's successes in the recent St. Thomas Carnival. SBDC Sets Seminar on Retirement Planning for Small Business on May 23
The UVI Small Business Development Center (SBDC) will present a seminar titled "Retirement Planning for Small Businesses" from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, May 23, at the center's Training Facility at Nisky Center on St. Thomas. Julito Francis, vice president/financial consultant of Popular Securities, will be the presenter. Francis will cover what individuals should know about maintaining a comfortable retirement lifestyle based on solid investment decisions. Pre-registration is required. Admission is $20. UVI students, staff and veterans are admitted free with valid identification. To pre-register or for more information call the SBDC at 776-3206.
CES Offers May 25 Workshop on Birds of the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico
The University of the Virgin Islands' Cooperative Extension Service (CES) Agriculture and Natural Resources Program will offer a free workshop on birds of the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. The workshop will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 25, at the UVI Small Business Development Center Training Facilities at Nisky Shopping Center on St. Thomas.
