I read the article by Winston Nugent and it sure did bring back memories for me. I, Janelle McGregor, moved from St. Croix to Tampa, Fla. when I was 12 years old. I could taste the ice cream from Golden Cow and definitely from Mr. Armstrong that the author spoke of. In the "States" you just don't find quality like that! Now as I sit and drink a "Damson" Brow Soda, I reminisce on the johnny cakes from Downtown and the fun I had with my cousin at Hondo's. Not to mention the parties at Cramer's Park and, of course, the j'ouvert morning on Christmas that I watched from my grandparents' house.
