Labor Day Volleyball Tourney at Sports and Fitness Center
The University of the Virgin Islands Athletic Department will host its fourth annual Labor Day Volleyball Tournament in the Sports and Fitness Center on the St. Thomas campus from Sept. 2 to 4. The tournament will feature three university club teams from the U.S. mainland, two squads from the British Virgin Islands, one from St. Croix and two from St. Thomas. The visitors will compete against the UVI Buccaneer men's and women's squads.
Regional teams are made up of all-star selections from the various islands. The mainland teams are from Utah, Arkansas and Texas. The UVI squads will be in action at 8 and 9 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 2. Games resume at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 3. Play continues Saturday evening at 7 p.m. and concludes with 4 p.m. action on Sunday, Sept. 4. Admission is free and the concession will be open for refreshments. For details call 693-1104.

UVI Participants Sought in the St. Croix Relay For Life Scheduled Sept. 3-4
The UVI Community and members of the general public are invited to participate in UVI's St. Croix campus Relay For Life cancer fundraiser team. Teams of up to 15 persons raise funds for the fight against cancer by soliciting contributions for the St. Croix Unit of the American Cancer Society. At least one individual from each team will be walking, running or jogging on the track at all times. The Relay For Life begins at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 3 and continue until 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 4. This year's goal is to raise $100,000 for the fight against cancer. UVI's team efforts are being organized by SFC Angel Santos, Jr. of the UVI-SROTC program. To sign up for the team, call Santos at 692-4101. The sign-up deadline is 1 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 2.
UVI to Close for Labor Day on Monday, Sept. 5
The University of the Virgin Islands will be closed on Monday, Sept. 5, in observance of the Labor Day holiday. Classes will resume and all administrative offices will return to regular schedules on Tuesday, Sept. 6.
St. Thomas SGA Invites Faculty and Staff to Fun Day on Sept. 5
The UVI Student Government Association (SGA) on the St. Thomas campus will conduct an SGA Fun Day at 10 a.m. on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 5, at the Recreation Center on the UVI Golf Course. UVI faculty and staff are encouraged to participate by forming a team for participation in various games (egg and spoon, tug-of-war, etc.). Lunch will be provided, however you are encouraged to bring snacks. Signup sheets are available at the various division offices. Interested individuals may also call the Student Activities Office at 693-1111.
UVI Provost, CEAs to be Guests on Afternoon Mix on Sept. 7
The topic will be "Students First" when UVI Provost Dr. Al Hassan Musah and Campus Executive Administrators Dr. Deborah Fontaine from St. Croix and John D'Orazio from St. Thomas join Raul Carrillio's radio program Afternoon Mix on Wednesday, Sept. 7. The show is broadcast weekdays on Radio 1 – AM1000 – from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Free Papaya Production Seminar Set Sept. 8 on St. Thomas
A free papaya production seminar is scheduled for 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 8, on UVI's St. Thomas campus. Dr. Tom Zimmerman, a researcher at UVI's Agricultural Experiment Station (AES) on St. Croix will be the presenter. He will present the latest research on the production of new, dwarf varieties of payapa. The seminar is designed for farmers, but the general public is welcome to attend. It will take place in the Training Room at the Sprots and Fitness Center. The seminar is sponsored by UVI's AES and the Cooperative Extension Service. Welcome-Back Boat Ride Sept. 9 on Kon Tiki
A free, welcome-back boat ride on the Kon Tiki for UVI St. Thomas campus students, faculty and staff is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 9, with an 8 p.m. departure from the Charlotte Amalie Waterfront across from Banco Popular. Music will be provided by D.J. De Keg. Light refreshments and drinks will be available. The boat will cruise St. Thomas' harbor and return at 11 p.m.
Public Lecture on Forensic Entomology Offered at UVI on Sept. 10
Noted American forensic scientist Dr. Neal Haskell will present a free public lecture at the University of the Virgin Islands at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 10. The lecture is part of UVI's Introduction to Forensic Sciences course offered this semester on the St. Croix campus. Dr. Haskell is professor of Forensic Science and Biology at Saint Joseph's College in Rensselaer, Indiana. He is also a private consultant in forensic entomology who works with law enforcement agencies across North America and in Europe. Dr. Haskell has authored several book chapters and books. His crime case stories have been featured in a number of books and in over 150 news articles, and other news media. The Sept. 10 lecture will originate in room 401 of the Evans Center on UVI's St. Croix campus. It will be videoconferenced to room 213 in the Teacher Education building on the St. Thomas campus.
St. Croix UVI Class of 2006 to Elect Officers on Sept. 11
Members of the University of the Virgin Islands St. Croix campus class of 2006 will hold a class meeting from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 11, in Evans Center room 401 (the Theater). The meeting will include discussion of the duties of class officers and committee members, and the nomination and election of officers. Clubs and Organizations Awareness Days Set Sept. 14-15 on St. Croix Campus

St. Croix SGA Installation Ceremony Set Sept. 14
Student government installation ceremony on UVI's St. Croix campus is scheduled for noon on Wednesday, Sept. 14, in the Melvin Evans Center courtyard. Student officers for classes from freshman through senior will be installed. For more information, contact Clint Ferris at 692-4188.
Student Organizations Registration Deadline is Sept. 15
Sept. 15 is the deadline for student organizations interested in registering for the 2005-2006 school year. Representatives of student organizations and their advisors are scheduled to meet from 12:30 to 2 p.m. on Sept. 15 in room 222 of the Sports and Fitness Center. Faculty and staff advisors are asked to remind their organization/club's officers of this deadline. Registration documents are available at the Student Activities Office located in the Student Activities Center. A meeting of organization representatives and their advisors is scheduled for 12:30 to 2 p.m. on Sept. 15. For information, call 693-1111.
September Fest Information and Activity Event Set on St. Thomas
The annual September Fest information and activities event on UVI's St. Thomas campus is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 22, in the Sports and Fitness Center. The UVI community is invited to participate in such activities as health screenings and V.I. voter registration. There will also be information displays on UVI's various campus clubs and organizations for students. UVI employees can check on benefits information from the Human Resources Office. Photo I.D.s will be taken for faculty, staff and students – with an emphasis on part-time students. Additional information on UVI services and on- and off-campus job opportunities will be available. A Bookstore gift pack will be presented to participants. Sept. Fest sessions are scheduled from 11a.m. to 2 p.m. and again from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Reichhold Center Seeking Volunteers for 2005-2006 Season
UVI's Reichhold Center for the Arts is seeking individuals interested in volunteer opportunities during the 2005-2006 season. The season opens with Grammy Award winner Al Jarreau on October 1.
