Sept. 16, 2005 – Frederiksted, Mount Pleasant and areas around the Henry E. Rohlsen Airport were without phone services Friday after a major cable was severed on the Queen Mary Highway.
The Water and Power Authority had been repairing a broken water line between Castle Burke and the Superior Court building that left residents of Kings Hill, Castle Burke, Clifton Hill and Grove Place with little or no water from about 7 p.m. Thursday until 3 p.m. Friday.
At noon Friday a WAPA backhoe hit a fiber optic cable that was obscured by muddy water, according to a release from WAPA
A release from Innovative Communications Corp. Friday afternoon said, "ICC telephone crews are evaluating the extent of the damage and will be working until service is restored to the affected areas."
WAPA also announced Friday that it will replace a gate valve in Estate Grove Place Saturday.
Potable water service will be interrupted for Mutual Homes, Lorraine Village and Croixville Apartments customers while WAPA's maintenance crew work near the Old Drive-in Theatre intersection from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
