Dear Source,

In the past weeks or so, I have read many things about these beautiful islands. I am concerned about immigration to the islands in general. I am from St Thomas, and let me tell you things are too congested on the island. It feels more like Los Angeles while driving home. It is a mess. Try going home via Havensight after 5 p.m. My childhood home is gone forever. I wish we had nothing to do with the U.S.A. Otherwise, we would be more like other islands where the influx of "outsiders" is significantly less.
When you go to the beach on a Sunday, it is packed! Most of the people who have migrated here don't have good manners. They will see their children doing something they shouldn't and will be mute. In the same breath, if you speak to their child, they vex. They will see you each morning watch you in your face and not say "good morning" which by now they know is the custom.
There are few people who migrate from the "states" who have friends who are Africans (we are not in the west, nor are we Indian). They don't know our foods nor cook them in their homes. How can you live in a new country and not be part of it in any way. The only part they embrace is the rum drinking.
On to St. John. The people of St John are way too polite. They don't want to make a fuss, but they better start making some noise. With the closing of Guy Benjamin School that is only the beginning. St. John is growing, so why would a school closing be a good idea? Why are there so many bars on St. John? Why did the idea of a police station in Coral Bay not sink in until recent happenings? I feel all land on St. John should be leased, not sold. That goes for St. Croix and St. Thomas as well.
This for two primary reasons. One, you guarantee yourself income. Another is the land remains in your family's possession. I love St. John. The place is serene and calming. I would like to invite the residents of St. John to hold more meetings. Start a non-profit to stop the selling of land and also to begin some agricultural endeavors.
I want to see Jam band and more of African centered activities and events that are on going and visual. Fish Fry's on every other Friday. By the National Park you could have history lessons taught by plays, and food can be sold. Youth activities and swimming lessons on Saturdays. I have more to say, but will save it for another day.
