WAPA Customers Relieved of Streetlight Charge

0

Sept. 16, 2005 – Finally, some good news for V.I. Water and Power Authority customers.
The streetlight surcharge has been eliminated from power bills. However, not everyone is getting the good news right away. Although the surcharge was to be eliminated Sept. 1, due to a technical glitch, customers on billing cycles 52 and 53 on St. Thomas and one through eight on St. Croix will still see the streetlight surcharge on their September bill. Customers can determine what billing cycle they are on by looking at the upper portion of the billing statement, in the box between the account number and the billing date. On the payment stub, the cycle number can be found in the top box next to the account number.
For customers who have already paid the surcharge as part of their September bill, credit will appear on the October bill.. Those who will pay by mail, on line at "www.viwapa.vi"), at the bank, or at the customer service windows or drop box, should deduct the exact amount of the streetlight surcharge from the bill before payment and indicate the adjusted amount on the bill. Adjustments can be made at the cashier windows only if the entire bill is presented. If the entire bill is not available, then the amount as stated on the payment stub should be paid and a credit will appear on the October billing statement.
The Authority appreciates the understanding of its customers as it completes the elimination of the street lighting surcharge.
