Maho Bay Makes National Geographic Top 10 List

Sept. 22, 2005 — National Geographic Adventure Magazine named St. John's own Maho Bay Camps one of the 10 best places to stay in the U.S. National Park system.
In the June/July, 2005 issue, the magazine reviews parks, trips, places to stay and stops in the national parks.
The resort's placement in the top 10 list was something of a surprise, said Marketing Manager Melody Smith. "We had been told by then that they were doing an article about resorts in the Carribean, but we didn't know it was going to be a top 10 list."
In a press release, Maho Bay administrators wrote "We agree and are honored to be one of the top ten places to stay selected from all the inns, hotels, lodges, cabins, chalets, and resorts in and around our 89 National Parks. The other nine places to stay are world famous and we are amazed to be in their company."
According to National Geographic Adventure Magazine, "Maho Bay Camps falls somewhere between a luxury resort and the Swiss Family Robinson's digs. The warren of tent-cottages overlooks the Caribbean, blending into the surrounding jungle. Each one boasts comfortable beds and a canopy-shaded deck, a perfect place to plan the day's activities. Visitors can swim at Maho's white-sand beach, snorkel nearby coral reefs, hike national park trails, or even better, do nothing at all."
NBC's Good Morning America show also featured Maho Bay Camps and three other top 10 spots from the magazine on the July 4, 2005 show.
Maho Bay Camps opened in 1976 as an ecotourism destination.
