V.I. Cyclists To Race for Aruba Invitation

Sept. 22, 2005 – "Win and you're in."
This is challenge that awaits the top cyclists in the territory on Saturday.
Elite riders who have won a race during the past season have been invited to compete for the final slot on the Caribbean Cycling Championship Team.
The V.I. Cycling Federation will send three riders to the 2005 race in Aruba, on Oct. 14-15. Two riders, Jamie Keys and Sue Brown, have been pre-selected on the strength of their performances in the 2004 St. Lucia edition. The final male rider will be determined in a head-to-head shoot out. The depth of the talent among the local riders has never been so deep, nor has the outcome of any race been so anxiously anticipated. All the riders, Juancito Gario, Gabe Webber, Nate Faulkenberry, John Riggs and Tom Guthrie, have stepped up their training, and the race should be the most competitive race of the season.
According to a press release from the federation, the course will be a time trial format, with each rider starting in one-minute intervals, which eliminates drafting and team tactics. Clearly, the most talented, fittest rider will prevail.
The course will be four laps of the Airport Loop, starting at 7 a.m. the Randall "Doc" James Racetrack.
