0

Sept. 28, 2005 – The St. Thomas-St. John Literacy Link will host training sessions for persons interested in becoming adult literacy volunteer tutors.
"Volunteers are not required to be teachers, just possess a desire to help someone learn to read and write," Anna Lewis, state director for Vocational-Technical and Adult Education, said in a recent press release.
"Interested persons will be trained utilizing the nationally renowned Literacy Volunteers of America Adult Learning techniques and materials."
The St. Thomas training workshops are scheduled for Oct. 11 through Oct. 13 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Addelita Cancryn Junior High School Library.
Lewis further encouraged the community’s adult learners to become actively involved in the literacy program. "Learners have the option of choosing to attend classes or be linked with a volunteer tutor who will assist the learner in the process of self-actualization through reading," Lewis added
