OMB/GAR Reminds Agencies to Secure Documents

Sept. 28, 2005 – Office of Management and Budget Director and the governor's representative for the Federal Emergency Management Agency Disaster Recovery Ira R. Mills has issued a statement reminding department and agency heads, nonprofit organizations and businesses that during the height of the Atlantic hurricane season, it is critical to secure important documents.
According to a press release from OMB, inventory, insurance and payment documents should be kept in a safe and accessible location so that in the event of a tropical storm, hurricane or flood, the public will be able to adequately identify their damaged assets and associate a claimed cost to those assets.
Mills stated, "I am encouraging you to identify…employees to serve as in-house emergency cadres that will be responsible for recording damages and providing access to the affected areas for FEMA and the territorial damage assessment cadres."
