Oct. 4, 2005 — Four native Virgin Islanders are among eight new physicians who join a growing medical team at Schneider Regional Medical Center.
The new team of physicians include Dr. Jeffrey Guller, an interventional radiologist; Dr. Luis Amaro, a specialist in internal medicine and pediatrics; Dr. Robin Ellett, a family practitioner; Dr. Alfredo Rivera, an anesthesiologist; Dr. Janice Victor, an anesthesiologist and pain management specialist; Dr. Paul Henrys, an orthopedic surgeon; Dr. Clayton Wheatley, an emergency room physician; and Dr. Iris Dottin, a pediatrician.
"We welcome these able and very well-qualified physicians to our medical staff," said Rodney Miller, CEO and President of Schneider Regional Medical Center. "I’m especially pleased that we now have an interventional radiologist who comes from one of the top hospitals in the country, who can help us pinpoint health problems ahead of time, such as strokes. Also, both of our new anesthesiologists will also help improve the efficiency of our operating room," he said.
Most of the new physicians started work in July and August, but one, St. Thomas born Dottin, began her first day on September 26. She attended All-Saints Cathedral School and conducted her residency in pediatrics at St. Luke’s Memorial Hospital in Ponce, Puerto Rico. Another physician from St. Thomas who has returned home is Wheatley, who is board-certified in emergency medicine and has practicing in Atlanta, Ga. for the past 18 years.
Victor returned home to St. Thomas from Duke University Hospital in Durham, N. C., where she completed her fellowship in pain medicine. She obtained her M.D. from Wright State University School of Medicine in Dayton, Ohio.

Amaro is also returning home. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at the University of Miami’s Jackson Memorial Medical Center in June 2005, and then received his M.D. from Wright State University School of Medicine. He grew up in St. Thomas and graduated from Charlotte Amalie High School in 1990.
Ellett, has been a public health physician at the Community Health Clinic since September 2001.
Rivera comes to St. Thomas from Puerto Rico. He is a Board-certified anesthesiologist who was on staff at Auxilio Mutuo Hospital in San Juan since 1986. He is licensed to practice medicine in five States in addition to Puerto Rico.
Henrys practiced orthopedics at the Schneider Hospital from 1994-1996. He is returning to St. Thomas after conducting his own private practice in Miami. He is Board-certified and has 30 years of experience practicing orthopedics.
Guller comes to Schneider Regional from Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York, one of the nation’s finest teaching hospitals and listed as one of the nation’s best hospitals in 2005 by U.S. News & World Report. Guller achieved his fellowship in interventional radiology from the Columbia College of Physicians & Surgeons at St. Luke’s/Roosevelt Hospital Center in New York and his residency in diagnostic radiology at St. Roosevelt/Roosevelt Hospital Center in New York. He was Chief of Interventional/Vascular Radiology at St. Michael’s Medical Center in Newark, N. J. for four years before becoming Assistant Clinical Professor at Mount Sinai Medical Center.
All new physicians are board-certified or board-eligible. Schneider Regional Medical Center now has 70 full-time physicians on its medical staff.
