Oct. 3, 2005 — Former Virgin Islands resident Jane Lyman Glass, 84, died peacefully Sept. 16, in Wheeling, W. Va., surrounded by her family.
Born in 1921, the daughter of the late Joseph and Eunice Collier Lyman grew up in White Hall, Ill. A graduate of McMurray College in Jacksonville, Ill., she studied theater and appeared in college productions. She met her husband, Andrew Glass, at a theater production in Wheeling.
She and her husband lived for 25 years on St. Thomas, from 1969 until retirement in 1994. Andrew Glass ran the tourist guide "Here’s How" and was active in the Chamber of Commerce and in the St. Thomas Rotary Club. He and Jane Glass were devoted members of the St. Thomas Reformed Church (formerly the Dutch Reformed Church.) Since returning to the Mainland, Jane Glass was a member of Christ United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her husband and by eight children, by age, twins Andrew and Alexander, Mary Chapline Glass, Joseph Woodward, Jonathan Clyde, Mark Houston, Katherine Kern and Sarah Baker; as well as a sister, JoAnn Lyman Price and her family.
The four younger Glass children grew up on St. Thomas. Jonathan, now an attorney in private practice in Maryland, worked as a reporter at the V.I. Daily News and as an assistant to former V.I. Delegate to Congress Ron deLugo.
