Community Alert: Closings, Cancellations and Reopenings

Oct. 10, 2005 – The steady downpour affecting the territory is causing closings and cancellations.

St. Thomas/St. John Seventh Day Adventist School
The Home and School Association meeting (PTA) of the St Thomas/St. John Seventh Day Adventist School has been postponed to Monday, Oct. 17 at 5:30 p.m. at the school's auditorium.
WTJX Fundraiser
Taste of Two Islands, a fundraiser for WTJX, scheduled for Friday at Marriott Frenchman's Reef, has been postponed due to threatening weather. Watch for updates.
Tuesday, Oct. 11
UVI Reopened
Classes resumed at 2 p.m. Tuesday on both UVI campuses. Evening classes are scheduled to take place as usual.
V.I. Legislature
6 p.m. Committee of the Whole – Zoning Hearing – postponed until Oct. 18
Government Offices
All government offices are open as usual.
Head Start
All head start programs on all three islands – closed
Senior Centers
All Human Services senior centers on all three islands – closed
All Public Schools Closed Tuesday
Noreen Michael, Education commissioner, called Radio One early Tuesday morning to say the territory's public schools would be closed Tuesday.
University of the Virgin Islands
Both campuses of UVI are closed until noon Tuesday. An assessment will be made at that time to see if the school will re-open. Essential personnel are expected to report as usual.
St. Croix Private Schools
St. Mary's Catholic School – closed
St. Patrick's School – closed
St. Jospeh High School – closed
Manor School – closed
St. Croix Christian Academy
St. Thomas Private Schools
All Saints School – closed. The school is closed, and the scheduled parent's night event is also canceled.
Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic School – closed

Monday, Oct. 10
V.I./Puerto Rico Friendship Village Canceled
The remainder of the VIPR Friendship Village has been canceled according to committee chair Vera Falu-Hope. Monday was to be the village's grand finale. "There is nothing we can do, it's raining too much," Falu-Hope said Monday.
UVI Campus closure
Oct. 10, 2005 – Due to anticipated flooding and what is expected to be a continuation of heavy rains throughout the remainder of the day, all classes are canceled on both univerity of the Virgin Islands campuses — beginning with 11 a.m. classes. University faculty and staff, with the exception of essential personnel, are to be dismissed at noon.
The university is asking its students, faculty and staff to continue to monitor the Source, radio broadcasts and the University's emergency hotline numbers for updates and notification about when the campuses will reopen. The hotline numbers are 693-1016 on the St. Thomas Campus and 692-4168 on the St. Croix Campus.
Guy Benjamin School Celebration Barbeque
Due to the heavy rains, the Guy Benjamin School Celebration Barbeque scheduled for Oct. 10th on St. John is cancelled. It will be rescheduled at a later date.
