Oct. 19, 2005 –– Pardon our dust might just be the Public Works Department's motto as the department makes improvements to the territory's roads during the next fiscal year.
The improvements will come as a result of $9.4 million included in the Public Works Department's budget. Of that figure, $7.5 million was included in the 2006 Omnibus Authorization Act signed into law last week by Gov. Charles W. Turnbull.
Turnbull said in a news release dated Oct. 14 that the repairs will improve the quality of life for the people of the Virgin Islands.
St. Thomas road work improvements are slated for Savan, Anna's Retreat, Lindbergh Bay, Bovoni, Hospital Ground, the road that runs from Nisky Center to Victor's Hideout, Drake's Seat, Water Bay Condos to Emerald Hill, St. Joseph and Rosendahl, Mountaintop, Hull Bay, Frydenhoj, and Anna's Fancy from the Watering Hole area.
The department also plans to repair a retaining wall in Nadir Hill, construct retaining walls in Estate Harmony and at Spring Hill road across from Estate Lurkenlund, and in Savan. It expects to build sidewalks from the Sibilly Annex school on Crown Mountain Road to the Estate Dorothea tot lot as well as construct restrooms at the tot lot.
The press release said information about projects on St. Croix and St. John will be released Wednesday, but as of 5:45 p.m., it had not arrived.
Public Works crews will also clean gutters and repair drainage areas across the territory.
The public will be notified when work is about to begin.
