Piano Duo to Kick off Whim's Candlelight Concert Series

Oct. 20, 2005 — The St. Croix Landmarks Society is kicking off the 20th anniversary of its Candlelight Concert series with the piano duo of Anthony Padilla and Sooyeon Kwon-Padilla performing both Friday and Saturday night.
Padilla, an Eastman School of Music graduate, is a professor of piano and chamber music and chair of the Keyboard department at the Lawrence University Conservatory of Music in Appleton, Wis. He has also been the Artist-in-Residence at the Bay View Music Festival since 1996. An American pianist of Filipino –– Chinese ancestry Padilla is internationally recognized for his dazzling technique. Padilla made his debut with the Seattle Symphony at the age of 16 and. has been performing ever since as a guest artist with orchestras and at concert series throughout the world. He is has performed at such prestigious venues as the La Jolla Chamber Music Society, the Ravinia Festival, Chautauqua, Schleswig-Holstein, Holzhausen, Victoria, Sarasota, Cascade, the Bay View and San Luis Obispo Mozart Festivals
Sooyeon Kwon-Padilla was born in Seoul, Korea to a family of musicians. As a winner of concerto competitions, she has been featured as a soloist with the Idaho-Washington symphony, and regularly appears in concert throughout the U.S., including duo performances with her husband, Anthony.
Performances start at 7:30 p.m. both Friday and Saturday. Anyone interested in attending either performance should call 772-0598 or stop by Estate Whim plantation museum to purchase tickets.
