Body Found Near Highway May Be Homicide

Nov. 11, 2005 — Police believe a man found dead near the Queen Mary Highway on Thursday night was the victim of vehicular hit and run.
According to a police report, 49-year-old Robert Santillana, a resident of Estate Williams Delight, was found with a head injury and transported to the Gov, Juan Luis Hospital emergency room. He was pronounced dead there at 11:50 p.m.
The police report stated that a citizen reported to police dispatch at about 9:50 p.m. that an apparent lifeless male individual was lying on the side of the highway, in the vicinity of Queen Mary Highway and Estate Carlton. Police responded and found a Hispanic male down on the northern side of the roadway. He was unresponsive and his body was lying in the recently constructed roadside drainage.
The case is being investigated as a homicide.
The deceased was known to hang around across from the Sunshine Mall, between the former location of Cost-U-Less and the Prosperity Service Station. Individuals who knew him said that he was in Frederiksted earlier in the evening.
The police officials are appealing to the public to call them with any information that may assist in the investigation. Police Department numbers are 778-2211, 911, or 778-4950. All information will be kept in the strictest of confidence.
