Kirwan School Hosts Workshop on Folk Music


Nov. 23, 2005 – Whitman Browne, principal of the Michael J. Kirwan Elementary School, announced that the music department will host the first of a series of workshops in connection with their music project titled Folk Music of the Virgin Islands scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 29, at 1 p.m., in the school's cafeteria.
Featured musicians, James "Jamesie" Brewster and Camille "King Derby" Macedon, both members of Jamesie and the All Star Band, will address the audience on the topics of history of our music, songs that speak of our culture, and will demonstrate the use of various instruments.
The school choir and band will also perform folk songs taken from Joyce LaMotta's songbook Folk Music of the Virgin Islands.
