Dec. 8, 2005 – The Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority (VIWMA) will be placing special solid waste bins at selected locations on St. Thomas and St. John for the collection of bulk waste for the next five weekends from Dec. 2 through Jan. 29. Residents are asked to place their bulk waste, such as furniture, bedding, stoves, refrigerators and other appliances, in the bins marked "BULK WASTE" and not on the ground near the bins.
On St. Thomas, the selected bin sites designated for bin site collection are:
Brookman; Mandahl; Nazareth; Black Point; Cancryn; Dorothea
On St. John, the bulk waste collection sites are:
Great Cruz Bay; Coral Bay
On St. Croix, bin sites which accept both household and bulk waste will continue to be:
Concordia; Mon Bijou; Peter's Rest; Cotton Valley
The bulk waste bins on St. Thomas and St. John will be put in place on Friday afternoons and removed on Monday mornings. Residents are reminded to refrain from placing household waste, yard trimmings, tires, and batteries in the designated bulk waste bins. Household waste is to be placed in the regular bins. Yard trimmings and brush are to be taken directly to the landfills or Susannaberg Transfer Station. Tires and batteries are to be disposed of at the appropriate recyclers.
