Dec. 21, 2005 The V.I. Police Department, jail and Superior Court on St. Thomas were evacuated Wednesday morning after a bomb threat was called in to the Alexander Farrelly Criminal Justice Complex at 11:15 a.m. The caller told police a bomb had been placed in the jail and was set to go off at 12:15 p.m. James McCall, assistance Police commissioner, said.
prisoners were being secured in the parking lot for the Superior Court, McCall said. He said the inmates were chained together and were being heavily guarded.
As of 12:30 p.m. no bomb had been found.
McCall said he had notified authorities at the Ron De Lugo Federal Building, which is adjacent to the Farrelly Complex on St. Thomas's Waterfront, of the threat. However, an employee at the U.S. Attorney's office in the federal building said they had not evacuated.
McCall said the bomb threat was under investigation. Anyone with information on the threat are asked to call police at 774-2310.
