Dec. 24, 2005 – Lieutenant Governor Vargrave Richards extends his very best wishes to all Virgin Islanders for a very Merry Christmas and a bright and prosperous New Year in his annual Christmas message:
"I wish everyone a joyous Holiday Season and their heart's desire for the New Year. Along with many Virgin Islanders, I look forward to Christmas each year when families come together and our rich heritage and culture comes alive through food, dance and music. From St. Thomas to St. John and to St. Croix, particularly at the annual Crucian Christmas Festival, Christmas in the Virgin Islands is indeed a very special time of the year."
"I encourage all to partake in the Crucian Christmas Festival – from the Food Fair to the Village to the Children and Adult's Parade," Lt. Governor Richards continued. "Let's celebrate the season by enjoying the familiar treats that makes this time of the year so special, such as lechon, sweetbread, guavaberry, sorrel, coquito and other culinary delights that can be found in the various booths at the Village. Let's also sway to the beats of Quelbe, Salsa, Merengue and the latest Calypso and Soca tunes as we ring in the New Year. "
Lt. Governor Richards added: "I also urge everyone to take a moment and express our gratitude on being spared the devastating effects of hurricanes this year. We are also thankful for the many blessings that were bestowed upon us this year. Lastly, we ask that our continued prayers be for the men and women in the military who are overseas fighting for peace and freedom around the world. We wish them God's peace and love and a safe return home to their families."
"May the spirit of the season bring good tidings to one and all!"
