Reconstruction to Begin on Midland Road

Jan. 12, 2006 — Virgin Islands Paving Inc. will start construction Tuesday on the Midland Road Phase 1 Project.
The contractor, according to a press release from George Phillips, acting commissioner of Public Works, is currently clearing shrubbery and tree trimming as well as doing a construction survey in preparation for excavation work for laying a 12-inch Water and Power Authority water line.
The work will commence at the western limit of the project (near Coble Village entrance) and proceed east towards Glynn intersection.
At the immediate start of this phase of the project, one lane will be closed. This will shortly change to full closure.
The roadway will then be closed to through traffic. Local traffic, as well as access to businesses in the affected areas, will be permitted. Motorists who must us this roadway were cautioned, in the press release, to pay attention to construction signs, traffic instructions and to exercise caution as dictated in the construction zone.
Pipe installation should be completed by May 6. The remaining contract work is to be completed on Aug. 4.
