Community Foundation Announces 2006 Mini-Grants

Jan. 20, 2006 – The Community Foundation of the Virgin Islands invites individuals and community organizations to apply for the foundation's 2006 Mini-Grant Program. The foundation awards mini-grants to innovative programs that support innovative programs that enhance the educational, physical, social, cultural, and environmental well-being of children, youth and families in the V.I.. Now in its 10th year, the mini-grant program at CFVI has provided almost a quarter-million dollars in grants to approximately 400 community organizations and individuals.
This year the mini-grant program will award up to $35,000 in grants. Individual awards range from $250 to $1,000. Any private group (i.e. school class or club, sports team, alumni group, etc.) or individual in the U.S. Virgin Islands may submit an application for the 2006 Mini-Grant Program. Proposals will also be accepted from established non-profit organizations.
In 2005 the foundation distributed a total of $32,145 in mini-grant awards to 42 community organizations. Among the community programs and organizations that received mini-grants last year were: Students of Theater Arts and Repertoire (STAR), Calypso Inc., Adventist Youth Drum Corps, the Humane Society of St. Thomas, The Friends of the Elaine I. Sprauve Library, and to Love City Leapers.
Applications for 2006 mini-grants must be postmarked or faxed by Friday, March 3. Applications are available on CFVI's website, www.cfvi.net , by calling CFVI at 774-6031, or at the CFVI office, Royal Dane Mall, Suite 2 C, Upstairs on St. Thomas; The Draughting Shaft, Havensight Mall on St. Croix; and the Chamber of Commerce, 3009 Orange Grove, Suite 12; or Connections, Cruz Bay on St. John.
