Music in Motion Students Chosen for an Elite Program

0

Feb. 16, 2006 – The Rock School for Dance Education has chosen 11 students from the Music in Motion Dance School to participate in its elite summer program in Philadelphia. The Rock School is a professional dance school with a focus on ballet. They audition over 2000 students in 25 cities every year. From this, only 350-400 students are accepted into the program. Choosing 11 students from one school is unprecedented in the Rock School's history.
The seven students in the Young and Gifted class who were selected were Kathleen Chelcher, Aliya Jackson, Allayeah John Baptiste, Janave McDonald, Lily Taylor, Makeda Turbe and Shevonne Rios. The students from the Contemporary Youth Dance Ensemble who were selected were Rafalia Corniero, Frances Ruiz, Kevin Swanston and Marcellina Ventura. They will be participating in an intensive two-week program in Philadelphia starting at the end of June.
Music in Motion is doing fundraising to pay tuition, housing and travel costs for the students and their chaperons. A food booth has been secured at the 2006 Agriculture and Food Fair where purchase of a plate of food will help in their fundraising efforts. Corporate sponsorship is also needed and donations from the community are gladly accepted. Call the Music in Motion Studio for further information on how individuals and the community can help these young and talented ballerinas take advantage of this wonderful opportunity.
