Leipzig String Quartet to Perform at Reichhold

Feb. 23, 2006 – The Forum Presents from the Casals Festival The Leipzig String Quartet on March 11 at the Reichhold Center for the Arts.
The concert, a program of Mozart, Debussy and Mendelssohn, starts at 8 p.m.
Tickets are $40 and available at Reichhold Center, Modern Music in Nisky Center, Parrot Fish, Dockside Bookstore, Interiors at Fort Mylner and Home Again in Red Hook.
The quartet was founded in 1988, and in 2002 The New York Times wrote "if there is a Leipzig sound, this is it!"
The Neue Zuercher Zeitung has described the ensemble as "one of the towering and most versatile quartets of our time."
The Leipzig String Quartet has won numerous prizes and awards, such as the 1991 international ARD Munich competition and the Busch ad Siemens prize.
They have performed extensively through Europe, Israel, Africa, Central and South America, Australia, Japan and Southeast Asia, including performances at many of the major festivals.
In North America, The Leipzig String Quartet has appeared with pianist Christian Zimmermann at Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall and for the Philadelphia Chamber Music Society. They have played at Carnegie Hall's quartet series, the 92nd Street YMCA, The Frick Collection, Wolf Trap, the Library of Congress and chamber music series in Baltimore, Boston, Cleveland, Chicago, Houston, Salt Lake City, Los Angeles, Vancouver, Ottowa, Montreal, Quebec City and Mexico City.
In addition, it has been engaged by such festivals as Orford, Lanaudiere, Ottawa, Toronto and Puerto Rico's Casals Festival.
