March 15, 2006 – The University of the Virgin Islands will host a Career Exposition and Professional Development Conference from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., on Thursday, March 23, in the courtyard of the Ralph Paiewonsky Library. The exposition will feature representatives from more than 25 companies and businesses. Job information and applications will be available. Participants include HOVENSA, Ackley Communications, First Bank, Marriott's Frenchman's Reef Hotel, the V.I. Division of Personnel, the V.I. Health Department, the U.S. Marshal Service, the FBI, and the U.S. Navy. Representatives from the V.I. Education Department, who hired on the spot last year, will also participate.
St. Thomas Campus Counseling Supervisor Verna Rivers, who organizes the expo, encourages students to dress for success, prepare a one-minute introduction of themselves, bring a resume and have pointed questions to ask the employers.
The conference begins at 5:30 p.m. with the SHOP for Wealth seminar. SHOP for Wealth is an initiative of the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation that aims to help young people eliminate debt and become homeowners. That seminar will be followed at 7 p.m. with "The ABC's of the Mortgage Process" seminar. Available mortgage products will be discussed, including the various types of loans, investment properties and 40-year programs. It will be held jointly on the St. Thomas campus in Chase Auditorium (room B110), with a videoconference link to St. Croix campus, Evans Center room 401.
For more information, call Verna Rivers at 693-1087 or Sharon Simmons at 693-1314.
