March 20, 2006 — Reggae music veteran Glen Washington will perform "lovers' rock and consciuos reggae" at the Reichhold Center for the Arts Saturday, March 25.
The 8 p.m. concert will feature Jamaica-native Washington and a special guest appearance from St. Thomian Pressure. Pressure's current song "No Limitations" is climbing music charts in the Caribbean and the United States.
Washington has been compared to Gregory isaac, Freddie McGregor and Beres Hammond.
In a press release from the Reichhold Center, Washington said, "People compare me to Beres and I take that as a compliment," Washington says. "However, I was also very much influenced by Luther Vandross and Stevie Wonder. As a youngster, I would try to mimic the singing styles of Otis Redding and Sam Cooke."
Washington was originally a singer, but later became a drummer and toured with Calabash, Shinehead, Junior Reid, Gregory Isaacs, and Sister Carol. But his love for writing and singing prevailed, and his returned to the music studio. He released his debut album, "Get Next to Me" in 1998.
His most recent CD is "In the Heart of the City." Washington will sing songs from that CD and more at his Reichhold performance.
Prices for the Glen Washington concert are $45, $35 and $25. Tickets are available at Parrot Fish, Modern Music (Havensight), Krystal and Gifts Galore, the University of the Virgin Islands Bookstore and the Reichhold Center Box Office. Tickets can also be purchased over the phone through the Reichhold Center at 693-1559. Travel packages are available from the British Virgin Islands, St. Croix & San Juan.
The concert is sponsored by FirstBank, VI Council For the Arts and Marriott Frenchman's Reef.
