Police Questioning Veteran Officer in Shooting Death

March 25, 2006 – Police questioned one of their own Saturday, a detective linked to a hotel shooting that killed a woman and seriously injured a man, officials said.
Sherett James of St. Thomas died from gunshot wounds to the head and body, according to Police spokesman Sgt. Thomas Hannah.
She was dead when police arrived, Hannah said.
Daren Stevens, a St. Croix TV personality also known as Bogle, was shot in the abdomen and chest, Hannah said.
Stevens was listed in critical condition after undergoing surgery at Roy Lester Schneider Hospital, said hospital spokesman Amos Carty.
Police have not named a suspect but said the detective was a person of interest. Hannah declined to name the detective, identifying him only as a veteran officer.
"Unfortunately, we don't know what the motive is as to this thing yet," Hannah said.
Five shots were fired shortly after 8 a.m. in the small Bunker Hill Hotel on Garden Street in Charlotte Amalie.
Stevens was on St. Thomas to interview visiting Jamaican reggae singer Glen Washington for Stevens' WSVI Channel 8 show Entertainers' Voice.
