April 9, 2006 — The annual celebration of National Library Week signaled the 24th running of the NLW Run To Your Library in downtown Christiansted Saturday morning, nearing the end of a weeklong list of activities at the Florence Williams Public Library.
Juan Robles took first place overall in the 3.1 mile road
race on the streets of historic Christiansted with a time of 17 minutes and 10 seconds (a 46-second improvement on his winning time last year).
Patrick Joy ran the most strategic race of the day as he trailed Charles Hamel and Collin Daugherty for three of the four laps of the race and pulled ahead, going up Company St. and finishing second in 19:43.
Hamel was third in 20:10, Daugherty fourth in 20:40, Mark Kennedy fifth in 21:53 (1 minute and 30 seconds faster than last year), Errol Chichester finished sixth in 22:38,
Kiril Logvinoff was seventh in 23:27, Tapia Ceasar was eighth in 23:40, Scott Fricks finished ninth in 23:44, John Mahony was tenth in 23:50, and Jose Ramirez was eleventh in 30:30.
Tish Dusich continued her winning ways as she was the first female finisher in 21:06. Erica Sweitzer, a teacher at the Ricardo Richards Elementary School, was second in 21:46. Arlene Watson was third in 23:42, Dulcie Crowther finished fourth in 24:10 (2 minutes and 48 seconds faster than last
year), Theresa Harper (in the final days of training for the Boston Marathon) was fifth in 24:18, and Sarah Bostwick was sixth in 27:13.
The next events on the V.I. Pace Runners calendar are the 18th Paradise 5K on May 4 and the Annual Children Run Christiansted on May 5.
