Alert: Alcohol Sales Restricted on Good Friday

April 13, 2006 — In a press release issued this week, the V.I. Police Department reminds business owners and citizens of the restriction on alcohol sales from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Good Friday, April 15.
According to the release, the ban includes beer, wine and liquor.
After referring to the pertinent subsection of the V.I. Code, Police Commissioner Elton Lewis said, "it is the responsibility of all owners of businesses that dispense alcoholic beverages and liquor to adhere to this in respect for the religious holiday."
Lewis noted that "it is up to the business owner to comply."
According to the release, violators face a maximum fine of $200, up to a year in prison, or both.
