News Brief: Energy-Saving Audits Available to WAPA Residential Customers

0

May 16, 2006 – Rising electric bills have prompted the V.I. Energy Office, in conjunction with the V.I. Water and Power Authority, to offer residential energy audits to WAPA customers in the territory.
When contacted for an audit, representatives from both agencies will analyze customers' energy consumption in the building, provide recommendations for cost savings, develop a cost estimate and a timeline to recover the investment made in energy-saving retrofits for home owners.
Energy Office Director Bevin Smith said that representatives will make site visits. "They'll go room to room," he said.
He said recommendations will include using such easy energy savers as using compact fluorescent light bulbs. If making those changes don't help, he said they will test electric meters to make sure they're working properly.
Participants must provide a layout/plan of the building, which cannot exceed 15,000 square feet.
The participant must also allow monitoring of the building's electric bill for up to three years.
Residents who wish to participate in the audit program may pick up an application at WAPA or the Energy Office.
For more information, call program administrator Patricia Lord at 773-1082.
