More than 300 to Earn Degrees from UVI May 15, 16
The University of the Virgin Islands will confer more than 300 degrees at its 42nd annual commencement ceremonies set for May 15 and 16. Degree recipients will include the first cohort of students in the Education Specialist in School Psychology degree program graduate – UVI's highest degree. Other participants will include Jomo Richardson, the first graduate of a collaboration program between UVI and Columbia University, mother and son graduates on the St. Croix campus Monsita Diaz and Paul Ruiz, and Daryl Edwards, who will earn his fifth UVI degree. The St. Thomas campus ceremony will be held at 7 p.m. today (Monday, May 15) in the UVI Sports and Fitness Center. The St. Croix ceremony will be held at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, May 16, on the campus grounds. Press releases are available on the UVI web site – www.uvi.edu.

Online registration is underway for UVI's Summer Sessions I and II. Online registration is also offered to continuing students for Fall Semester 2006 classes. Class schedules and detailed registration information are available from the UVI web site – www.uvi.edu.

Summer Session I registration ends today (May 15) and classes begin on Wednesday, May 17.
2006 Summer Institute for Future Global Leaders Set for May 17-30
UVI's 2006 Summer Institute for Future Global Leaders in the Caribbean will open on Wednesday, May 17, on the University's St. Thomas campus. The Institute is an intensive, two-week leadership development course designed to broaden student knowledge of the impact that global forces of technology, commerce and communication have on the Caribbean. Approximately 45 university juniors, seniors and first-year graduates from throughout the Caribbean, the US mainland and Europe are expected to participate. The 2006 theme is "Building Capacity for Managing Global Opportunities and Challenges." The Right Honorable Vance Amory, Premier of Nevis, will be the keynote speaker at the official opening ceremony on Thursday, May 18. The public is invited to attend the Institute's World Forum scheduled from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Monday, May 29. Slated at UVI's Reichhold Center for the Arts, the World Forum will feature a distinguished panel debating the topic: The Benefits of Globalization Outweigh the Problems it Causes. SBDC to Offer Direct Mail Seminar on St. Thomas on May 17
A seminar titled "Direct Mail By the Numbers" will be offered by UVI's Small Business Development Center from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 17, on St. Thomas. It will be offered in collaboration with the U.S. Postal Service at the SBDC Training Facility at Nisky Center. Customer Service Representative Roy I. Benjamin, who specializes in small business issues, will be the presenter. Techniques for maximizing advertising spending by employing post office services will be covered. Pre-registration is required. Admission is $20 per person. Seating is limited to 30 persons. To pre-register or for more information, call 776-3206.
Exterior Painting to Begin May 17 on St. Croix Campus
Exterior painting of the Research and Extension Center, Agricultural Experiment Station and the Melvin Evans Center on UVI's St. Croix campus will begin on Wednesday, May 17, in the REC building. The buildings will be power washed with water prior to painting. It is anticipated that this project will be completed by the beginning of the fall 2006 semester, weather conditions permitting. High School Juniors, Seniors Invited to Free College Residency Program
The University of the Virgin Islands Business Division, in partnership with International Capital & Management Company, invites interested high school juniors and seniors to join the College Business Residency Program. The annual summer program offers a free, two-week taste of college life on UVI's St. Thomas campus. Students stay in the UVI dorms and are exposed to various aspects of business education in classroom and field-trip sessions. Space for the program is limited to 20 individuals. Students from throughout the Virgin Islands are eligible. The program will be held from June 18 to June 30. The deadline to submit applications is May 30, 2006. Participants Sought for UVI's 2006 Relay For Life Team on St. Thomas
Members of the UVI community are invited to join in the St. Thomas campus' 15-member 2006 Relay For Life team. Relay For Life, an annual fund raising event for the American Cancer Society, is scheduled for June 24-25 at the Charlotte Amalie High School track. Organizers describe the Relay as a fun-filled, overnight event designed to celebrate survivorship and raise money for research and programs conducted by the American Cancer Society. Parsons Dance Company to Perform at Reichhold Center on May 20
New York City's celebrated Parsons Dance Company takes over the Reichhold stage on Saturday, May 20, with intoxicating power as they challenge gravity and speed with their intensely focused and inventive program. Tickets in the lower and upper uncovered sections are still available for $28 and $18, respectively. In addition to the Reichhold Ticket Office, tickets are available at Modern Music in Havensight and Nisky Center, Parrot Fish, VI Bridal and Tuxedo, the UVI Bookstore and Connections on St. John.
Boating Course Scheduled at SBDC on St. Thomas
The UVI community is invited to participate in a four-week, US Sail and Power Squadron basic boating course beginning on Wednesday, May 31. The course will be conducted by Captain Tom McCoy. Weekly class meetings will alternate between Mondays and Wednesdays, from 6 to 8 p.m. Classes will be held at the UVI Small Business Development Center (SBDC) training facility at Nisky Center. There is no fee for the course, but materials cost $55. For details, call McCoy at 774-2715. Participants who pass the course receive certificates that are recognized world-wide.
