July 7, 2006–Nereida C. Washington has been named associate campus administrator for operations for the University of the Virgin Islands St. Croix campus.
Washington, a 16-year UVI employee, has filled the operations position in an acting capacity since September of 2005. Dr. Monique Guillory, St. Croix campus executive administrator, said she applauds "Washington's ongoing commitment to the UVI community."
In the position, Washington will be involved in the design and implementation of campus-based capital projects, overseeing the management for all business and facilities services for the St. Croix campus, including the business office, campus bookstore, security, physical plant operations, facilities renovations, housekeeping, grounds operations and emergency preparedness.
Washington is a native of St. Thomas and graduate of Eudora Kean High School. She holds BA and MBA degrees in from UVI.
She began her UVI work career in 1989 as an administrative assistant in the Business Division on St. Thomas.
Washington is also a part-time UVI instructor, most recently teaching Business Strategy and Freshman Development classes.
Washington praised the commitment of employees in her department who "take pride in their responsibilities at the institution. It's made my job easier in transition from academics to operations," she said.
Washington is married to UVI Accounting Professor Aubrey Washington, the current chairman of UVI's Business Division. They have three children, Digna, 18, who will begin her junior year at UVI in the fall; Nerissa, age 13; and Alexander, 11.
