July 25, 2006 – The Boy Scouts of America will hold a Handline Fishing Tournament from 9 a.m. to noon on Sunday, Aug. 6, at the American Yacht Club Marina in Red Hook. The tournament, which is sponsored every year by Innovative to benefit the Boy Scouts, is in its 16th year. All children under 18 are invited to the tournament, which will end with an awards ceremony and is free of charge.
The Handline Tournament will be held during The Boy Scouts weeklong tournament called the United States Virgin Islands Open – Atlantic Blue Marlin Tournament.
"The rules of the day are very simple — we give the young anglers a handline to fish off the docks for the chance to win a prize in several of the contests of the day," said V. I. Boy Scouts Council Executive Director Matt Holmes. Some of the awards will be for the "ugliest" fish, the "longest" fish, the "heaviest" fish, and the "most" fish. Prizes will include rod and reels, and bicycles.
"As they have in the past, Innovative will host a complimentary lunch and provide goody bags with great give-aways and T-shirts to the first 200 registered participants," Holmes said.
