Aug. 15, 2006 – A two-day Language Arts Summer Institute for secondary school educators has been scheduled as part of the new textbook adoption. The institute is being sponsored by the district in conjunction with Houghton Mifflin/McDougal/Little, according to a press release from the St. Thomas-St. John School District.
It will be held at the Marriott Frenchman's Reef Resort from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., on Wednesday and Thursday, Aug. 23 and Aug. 24. It is open to all English teachers, ELL teachers, special education teachers, paraprofessionals, substitute teachers, administrators and librarians at the schools that serve students in grades 7 through 12. Registration is mandatory; therefore, all interested persons are asked to visit the Curriculum Center in Estate Tutu (located across from the Seventh Day Adventist School). The registration deadline is Friday Aug. 17, and space is limited.
The purpose of the institute is to familiarize educators with the newly adopted text. In addition to this initial training, educators will be able to participate in school-based training throughout the year.
