Oct. 3, 2006 The Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority advises the St. Croix public, tow operators and waste haulers that the Anguilla Landfill has made some operational changes to accommodate the current clean-up operations from the recent acts of vandalism.
The authority is asking for the cooperation of the public and waste haulers to adhere to the following operational changes at the landfill, according to a press release from VIWMA.
1) Until further notice, there will be no visitors or tours allowed at the landfill.
2) All green or yard, waste is to be taken directly to the landfill and cannot be disposed of at the bin sites. Green waste will only be accepted at the landfill on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon
3) All waste entering the landfill is to be sorted prior to bringing it to the landfill.
Drivers entering the landfill are asked to reduce their vehicular speed and heed to all directives given by the authority or their contractor, A-9 Trucking Enterprises.
The VIWMA continues to ask that if anyone knows anything about the incident at the landfill that occurred last Wednesday night, that they contact the V.I. Police Department or V.I. Fire Services immediately.
