Dear Source:
Having stayed out of politics for most of my adult life, with the exception of voting when and where I could, I am motivated to make comment on the advertisement in the St. Croix Avis today of the Christensen Campaign for Congress about Warren B. Mosler. Having witnessed some of his business dealings since his arrival on St. Croix and listened to him on one of the radio talk shows last Thursday, it is my feeling that he is being painted with a tainted brush.
In an age where greed and selfishness have almost become a standard, the word altruism has almost become archaic. Considering the fact that Donna Christensen has been delegate to Congress for ten years and has made some inroads, the fact remains that she has not achieved all that much for the people of the Virgin Islands. How much longer must we wait? If she were truly interested in the advancement of the residents of the Virgin Islands, she would concede to Mr. Mosler, back him and help push his programs rather that protect her job. If, together, they could not get his programs through and he failed to fulfill his promises, he would be out in two years and she would be back in. We would recognize by her unselfish action that she seriously had the interests of the Virgin Islanders at heart. However, to continue a negative campaign as indicated by the aforementioned ad, can and will only smear her reputation.
There comes a time when the old guard should step aside, get out of the rut, so to speak, and allow the younger, more creative, energetic, entrepreneurs carry the ball for the next phase. It is a long-shot, but I do hope she sees the light.
