Montessori School Will Hold 'Las Vegas Night'


Nov. 21, 2006 The Virgin Islands Montessori School's 37th Annual Las Vegas Night will be held from 7 p.m. to 2 p.m., on Saturday, Dec. 2, at the Wyndham Sugar Bay Resort. It will feature gaming, live music by Milo's Kings, prize-filled auctions, a $10,000 cash raffle and hors d'oeuvres. The night of gambling will feature casino-style gaming, including blackjack, craps, roulette, Texas hold 'em poker, bingo and electronic gaming courtesy of Southland Gaming. Although winnings cannot be redeemed for cash, they may be used for bidding in the auctions. There will be 300 volunteers working that night and George Blackhall will serve as the auctioneer.
There will also be silent and live auctions featuring gifts and services donated by local businesses and individuals. Some of the larger prizes include: a Caribbean cruise for two; a one week stay for four in a cottage in Halkidiki, Greece; hotel packages in Aruba, Florida, Tortola, St. Thomas and St. John; a Rolex Submariner watch; Lalique crystal; a Lladro figurine and an original etching by local artist David Hill. Other prizes will be fine jewelry, gift certificates for fine dining, and activities such as swimming with dolphins and day sails. One of the most unique silent auction items will be a pair of boxing gloves autographed by Mohammad Ali.
Original works of art by the children of the school will also be auctioned. Raffle tickets are $5 each for a grand prize of $10,000. Admission tickets are $50 in advance and $60 at the door.
