Feb. 6, 2007 — St. Croix logged its second homicide of the year with the killing of a 23-year-old William's Delight man early Tuesday morning at a Frederiksted housing community.
Police spokeswoman Shawna Richards identified the victim as Calvin Nesbitt and said he sustained multiple gunshot and stab wounds in an incident that occurred about 3:30 a.m. Tuesday.
In a released statement, Richards said that Police were called to the Marley Housing Community in Frederiksted at 3:38 a.m. Tuesday to investigate reports of shots being discharged.
Once there, she said, "Police discovered the body of the victim lying on the ground between Buildings 3 and 4 of the housing community."
Nesbitt was pronounced dead at 7:10 a.m. by medical examiner Michelle DuPre.
Police are asking anyone with information to contact investigators.
Nesbitt's killing is the fourth territorywide and follows the stabbing death of 24-year-old Jovan Joseph, just 29 days ago as the Crucian Christmas Festival was winding down.
Joseph died of a stab wound to the neck on Jan. 7 while at the Children's Village. The four men involved in the crime have all been arrested. They are all minors between the ages of 15 and 16 and are being held at the Youth Rehabilitation Center. By law, the names of minors charged with crimes are not released, but the Attorney General's Office can ask that they be charged as adults, at which point their names can be made public.
Police are asking anyone with information about Nesbitt's killing or any other unsolved crime to call investigators at 778-4950 or dial 911. Callers can remain anonymous.
