St. Croix Man Wins Poker Tournament, Seat in Vegas


Feb. 11, 2007 — Bernard Modeste of St. Croix took first place in Divi Carina Bay Casino's World Series of Poker Satellite Tournament, and will represent the territory in the World Series of Poker Championship Tournament in Las Vegas this August.
Modeste won the tournament entry, a seat valued at $10,000, and $1,500 cash for travel expenses, according to a news release from the casino.
Michael Dunston of St. Thomas placed second and won $2,100. Earle Brooks of St. Thomas won the third-place prize of $1,600. The top 10 finalists took home a total of $20,000 in cash and prizes, the news release said.
"Divi Carina Bay Casino looks forward to offering other major tournaments this year, and plans on hosting another World Series of Poker satellite in the next several months," the release said. For tournament information, registration or questions, call Fran at (340) 773-7529, x118.
Divi Carina Bay Casino, located on the east end of St. Croix, is open seven days a week from noon to 4 a.m., Sunday through Thursday, and noon on Fridays to 6 a.m. on Sundays. Treasure Bay V.I.
